#TheAsiaIwant: Our dreams for Children’s Rights in Asia

ASEAN Dialogue on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Ericka Quilos (Children Talk to Children Child Advocate)

This year’s #WorldChildrensDay on November 20 was extra special as the world also celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The UNCRC is known as the most visionary, universally accepted, and widely-ratified human rights agreement in history. It has been three decades since the Convention was adopted; significant progress is worth celebrating and challenges in protecting, promoting, and fulfilling the rights of the children remain.

They say change starts with a vision. We know great leaders who transform their visions into action. Let us all together make the world know our dreams for children’s rights and how we think these dreams can come true. Join us in the CRC Asia Regional Social Media Campaign #TheAsiaIwant: Our dreams for children’s rights in Asia!

We encourage children (aged 17 years old and below) to participate in this Social Media Campaign and express their aspirations. We also enjoin young people and adults, who are crucial actors in realizing children’s rights, to take part in it too!

How can you join?

1) Prepare the photo consent form (download the template here) and ask children and their adult mentors/guardians to go through and sign.

2) Ask children what their dreams/aspirations are for children’s rights and how they think these can be done and request them (or assist them in doing) to write their short responses on a whole bond paper piece using a thick marker (for readability).

3) Take their photos using your camera/phone (fansign style) and share them to your social media pages (if they agreed to share their photos on social media) and use the following hashtags:

#TheAsiaIwant (our Asia version of the SDGs “The World I Want” hashtag and tagline)

#ChildRightsAt30

#CRC30 (in solidarity of the global efforts led by UNICEF)

If the children do not agree to have their photos shared online or through traditional and print media, you may ask them if it is okay to use their own phone instead, and explain to the them that they can use the three (3) hashtags if they would like to share their photos online.

4) Tag influencers that you know. Please also tag CRC Asia Facebook pages and twitter handle for trackability.

5) We developed a photo booth frame for this (download here and here). You may also use the template, have it printed as tarpaulin or on Sintra board or sticker, but this addition is optional.
