WHAT IS YOUTH VOICES FOR CHANGE?
The Down to Zero (DtZ) Alliance is a global initiative of six organizations: Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Child Rights Coalition Asia, Conexión, Defence for Children-ECPAT, Free a Girl, and Plan International Nederland. The DtZ Alliance aims to prevent and stop the sexual exploitation of children in twelve countries in Asia and Latin America by implementing a three-year program called Stepping Up the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation of Children (SUFASEC) funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SUFASEC Programme has three main objectives: Children, youth, and their communities challenge social norms and harmful practices related to sexual exploitation of children (SEC); children and others work with duty bearers, such as governments and other authorities to hold them accountable to their obligations towards improved implementation of laws, policies, and systems; and children and youth have access to and are supported by strengthened assets and protective environments.
Youth Voices for Change (YVFC), an initiative under the SUFASEC Programme and implemented by Conexion in Latin America and CRC Asia in Asia, empowers youth leaders to advocate for critical issues such as climate action, human rights, and ending SEC. By providing technical and social capacity-building, YVFC equips young advocates with skills to create impactful communication tools, influence stakeholders, and drive systemic change.
Get to know us better through these videos created with young people from Asia and Latin America who are standing up against the sexual exploitation of children. Together, we listen to the silence and transform our realities through our voices, our stories, and our actions.
HOW DID YVFC ASIA WORK?
- Youth committees were established to empower young leaders to take the lead and be at the forefront of change in their communities.
- Creative labs and workshops were conducted to encourage social reflection, build technical skills for advocacy, and equip young people to create powerful communication materials that inspire action.
- Youth-developed manifestos or calls to action were crafted based on their own research and lived realities, capturing their vision for change within their specific contexts.
- Local advocacy action initiatives were led and mobilized by young people, turning their manifestos into concrete actions that created meaningful impact in their communities
- A national meeting was organized to bring together youth representatives from across the country to exchange best practices, reflect on lessons learned, and strengthen the movement moving forward.
